Eastover!

This year we combined Easter and Passover into a single event - Eastover! Laura, our Jewish friend, had us gentiles over for a Passover Seder.

Stewart and Cory - on their first cup of wine.
We followed the Jewish traditions and read the appropriate prayers. If you look closely, you can even see yamakas on the boys' heads. It was quite the educational experience, especially for Cory who didn't know any Jews until he met Laura.

Cory has never worn a yamaka before.
After our fourth (or fifth...I forget how much you're required to drink) glass of wine, we moved on the the Christian tradition of dying Easter eggs. We weren't sure about why we dye eggs, so we looked it up on Wikipedia. There are a few different things that the eggs symbolize, but eggs are apparently used because they used to be forbidden during Lent. Chickens would still lay eggs over the 40-day period and households would be left with a surplus at Easter time. They had to find something to do with all those eggs.

Stewart, Me, and Jen - proud of our eggs!
This was also my first pass at hard-boiling an egg. It was a success. I should have taken a photo of the finished products, but the aforementioned 4-5 glasses of wine made me forget.

  1. How fun! Seder and eggs sound like an awesome combo. Lola has a yamaka. She calls it, "my little cap." :)

  2. You could always take a picture of a raw egg and tell us it's hard-boiled.
